The Reunification of the Two Koreas

"The author of the play is the lesser-known French playwright Joël Pommerat, and director Łukasz Witt-Michałowski extracts from it a few stories that he puts on … a butcher’s table. It’s episodes, also the stories of the characters of the drama, desperately seeking feelings in their lives. They are presented without anesthesia, because such is the record of authentic human experiences , the extreme ones… In this play we have to do with the power of affect, which like a tsunami, goes through a world of seemingly orderly people, shattering their current order. "

"The Reunification of the Two Koreas is a set of short stories about Love – the affection that most frequently has long been dead and the feeling for which the protagonists are desperately searching to fill in the emptiness of their existence. This is the kind of love whose eroticism constitutes the life wish that reaches beyond the grave. In a series of accidental encounters, they are despairingly attempting to evoke the taste of the love of yore, the genuine affection – so unusual and so impossible at present – not unlike the reunification of Koreas. This is a lucid, clear, perfectly masterminded and executed play about Love. Its lack and (our) longing for it."
